Sons of Anarchy season 3 is going to air on on September 7th, 2010.

According to series creator Kurt Sutter, FX will be picking up season three of Sons of Anarchy, and season three will deal with SAMCRO’s roots.

Additionally, Sutter wants to “take [the Sons] into a world that is outside their own, where they don’t have control, where they are subject to other people’s laws and beliefs and parameters.

Where they aren’t quite the big fish in the small pond.

It has been announced that several scenes, relating to an arc which will feature in season three, were being shot on location in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

The Belfast scenes will begin filming on Monday 19th July and probably finish filming on the Thursday or Friday of the same week.  The song used in the trailers for the upcoming season is a remix of “Roadhouse Blues” by The Doors done by The Crystal Method.

FOX Announces Comic-Con Line-Up: 'Glee,' 'Sons of Anarchy' Get Panels

Comic-Con begins July 22, and while the full schedule of TV and film panels won't be released for about two weeks, 20th Century FOX provided a sneak peek at their big shows and panels.

Seven of the studio's 11 TV panels are for animated series, but the most attention will most likely come for the mid-season show Terra Nova.  The show about a family who goes back to prehistoric times is produced by Steven Spielberg and the panel will feature executive producer David Fury, a staple of Comic-Con thanks to his involvement in Buffy, Lost and 24.

Bones and Glee are both returning, despite having nothing to do with sci-fi or comic books, but in the strangest move ever, FX drama Sons of Anarchy will be making its Comic-Con debut to promote the upcoming third season.  What does an intense almost Shakespearean biker gang drama have to do with science fiction?  If you can answer that question, you're smarter than I am.

The other seven panels will feature the Sunday night animated comedies plus Futurama, which is back on the air thanks to a new life on Comedy Central.

And if you're worried about Fringe, these are just the shows produced by 20th Century FOX, and Fringe is from Warner Brothers.  If Sons of Anarchy gets a panel, you can bet Fringe will be there too.

Here's a quick rundown of the panels to help you begin your Comic-Con planning.

FRIDAY, JULY 23

Bob's Burgers (11am): The new mid-season animated series on FOX.

Neighbors from Hell (12pm): The panel for the new TBS animated series will feature many of the stars who provide voices on the show including Molly Shannon and Patton Oswalt.

Bones (2pm): Creator Hart Hanson and star David Boreanaz will be on hand to discuss season 6.

Terra Nova (3:30pm): The new Spielberg epic series panel will feature executive producers Brannon Braga and David Fury plus the pilot's director, Alex Graves (who also directed the pilot of Fringe).

SATURDAY, JULY 24

Family Guy (11am): Seth MacFarlane, Alex Borstein and Seth Green will be on hand to discuss the show.

The Cleveland Show (11:45am): The panel will feature the cast as well as a table read for part of an upcoming episode featuring Cleveland at Comic-Con.

Futurama (12:45pm): The stars and creators will all be there for the grand return to the airwaves with new episodes this year, complete with a special look at what Comic-Con will be like in the 31st century.

The Simpsons (1:30pm): The creators will be there to discuss the upcoming 22nd season.

SUNDAY, JULY 25

American Dad (12:30pm): MacFarlane returns for his third TV show panel of the event.

Glee (1:30pm): Check out an exclusive first look at season 2 with the creators and stars.

Sons of Anarchy (2:45pm): Creator Kurt Sutter and stars Charlie Hunnam, Ron Perlman and Katey Sagal will all be there to discuss the upcoming third season of the FX drama.

It’s rare to find a TV series these days that could sustain good hype and live up to its glorious start but Sons of Anarchydid just that. Week after week, the second season surpassed myexpectations as Charming became a battle ground for SAMCRO and its manyrivals, proving that the tension in Sons of Anarchy is far from running its course.

Asmy way of wrapping up a brilliant season, I’ve picked 10 of my favoritemoments. Feel free to leave your favorite moments, scenes and quotes inthe comments below!

Gemma’s Rape

Seeing Gemma raped over and over again was not easy to watch. In fact, the look at Katey Sagal’s face left me with a very heavy heart. But this tragedy gave depth and substance not only to SAMCRO’s matriarch but to the people closest to her as well.

Saving Tig

One of action-packed scenes this season was when Jax took the group against Clay’s orders to the motel where Tig was being held captive by bounty hunters. While it was exciting to see Jax rescue his SAMCRO brother, the scene took an even wilder turn as Jax and his men crashed the motel room and held the bounty hunters at gunpoint just enough for Tig to make his escape.

Unser Confides in Hale

I’ve always found Chief Unser fascinating. His revelation to Hale about Gemma’s rape and just how evil Zobelle is proved that there’s even more interesting layers to uncover with this character. It also proved just how loyal Unser is to SAMCRO.

Chibs’ Explosion

Just when I thought “Smite” was about to end peacefully, Sons of Anarchy ended its fifth episode this season with an explosion in the club’s garage that almost left Chibs for dead.

Prison Bait

Who could forget Juice being used as sexual bait as part of SAMCRO’s deal with some convicted One-Niners in order to gain protection? That for me was one of the rare funny moments of the second season.

Prison Fight

Thanks to Agent Stahl, who has a talent for concocting stories and igniting tension, the much awaited Jax and Clay showdown finally happened. It was bloody, gruesome and everything you’d expect from a step-father and a step-son who both had nothing but hatred towards each other.

The Dinner

Gemma thought that a little get together over dinner will fix the feud between Jax and Clay but all she got was bad news about Luanne’s death and more bickering from her husband and son. The best line from this scene, though, came from Jax as he told Clay, “I’m not the one who kills women!”

The Big Revelation

Thanks to Gemma’s big tear-jerking reveal about her rape, hope was not entirely lost for SAMCRO. For Gemma, though, it wasn’t just about liberating herself from her tragic experience, it was about letting go of her pride and reuniting the two men in her life.

Opie Confronts Stahl

Though Tig confessing to Stahl about Donna’s death was nerve-racking, seeing Stahl afraid for the first time as Opie confronted her about his wife’s death was far more gripping.  Hearing Opie say the words, “The outlaw had mercy. You remember that the next time your try to twist the truth and kill an innocent” and seeing him spare Stahl’s life was just classic.

Cameron’s Revenge

Who would have thought that Cameron would bring the most damage to SAMCRO by the end of season 2? His storyline involving Half Sack’s death and taking baby Abel as revenge for the death of his son Edmond was just shockingly depressing. Seeing a helpless Jax and a speechless Tara in fear also made me realize how good Charlie Hunnam and Maggie Siff are as actors.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned on Sons of Anarchy, it’s that family always comes first in the world of SAMCRO. A lot of salt may have been added to Jax and Clay’s wounds this season but the beef between these leather clad men has been put aside the moment Gemma came clean about her rape, and ultimately, when little Abel was abducted by Cameron.

“There was something fascinating about finding some organic way to put the family in a crisis that they’ve never been in before,” series creator Kurt Sutter tells TVGuide.com. “You can see the look on Jax’s face, the look on Clay’s face, that what has happened to Abel is not in any of their handbooks. This season has been about trust and loyalty and testing those loyalties and ultimately bringing that all to a head.

“Ultimately, when a brother says, ‘I need you,’ everything else takes a back seat. Whether it’s vengeance, whether it’s money…everything else falls away,” Sutter adds. “The wounds right now between Jax and Clay are put aside to deal with the crisis at hand, but those wounds will always be present and there will be times in the series when those scabs will be ripped open. But brotherhood and family is more important than that vengeance.”

But the kidnapping of baby Abel is just one of the losses Sons of Anarchy endured in its sophomore season. In the 90-minute finale alone, SAMCRO lost Half Sack, Weston was killed, Agent Stahl killed Cameron’s son Edmond, and Gemma killed Zobelle’s daughter Polly— which basically paves the way for promising storyline for season 3 now that the SAMCRO matriarch has been set up by Agent Stahl to take the fall her mistake and is now headed out of town with partner-in-crime Unser.

While Gemma’s life on the run will obviously be explored next season, Sutter reveals that season 3 will also deal with SAMCRO’s roots.

“Next season we will perhaps learn some more history of the Teller family,” Sutter says. “I’m fascinated by the mythology of the club, and when I have an opportunity to organically reveal those bits and pieces, it’s fun for me. And I think the fans really enjoy being able to get that information and put those pieces together.”

Series Creator Kurt Sutter Wants Conan O’Brien on ‘Sons of Anarchy’

Amidst the whole NBC fiasco, it’s nice to know that Conan O’Brien has a spot waiting for him on FX. In case you didn’t know, series creator Kurt Sutter has offered the Tonight Show host an “open invitation” to appear on his acclaimed motorcycle gang series Sons of Anarchy.

“I know appearing in a dramatic role on cable television is probably the last thing you’d ever want to do, but I want you to know that you have an open invitation on my show, Sons of Anarchy,” Sutter, who also appears as Big Otto Delaney on the action-drama series, wrote on his blog. “We have an IRA story line that will continue to play out this coming season, and I could use a bad-ass O’Brien on my team. Guns, blood, fist fights — you could really work some s**t out. Think about it.”

Evidently, Sutter has been a long-time fan of O’Brien. “From your first anxious, awkward night to your current state of highly-refined awkwardness, I’ve enjoyed and admired your humor and originality. I have no doubt you’ll land on your feet, wavy red hair intact,” Sutter added.

Can you imagine Conan playing an IRA member? Or perhaps even a SAMCRO member? While O’Brien’s possible guest stint is intriguing enough, it’s good to know that we’ll be getting more IRA action when Sons of Anarchy returns for its third season.  For more updates, check out this spoiler article.

As if Charming isn’t already crowded with SAMCRO, the Mayans, the IRA and all the other rival gangs, Sons of Anarchy brings in two more characters to stir up the drama.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Paula Malcolmson has signed on for an eight-episode arc, while Kenneth Johnson, who had a small role in the Sons of Anarchy season 2 finale, will be back for the show’s third season.
Which Sons of Anarchy Character Are You?

Malcolmson, whose credits include roles on Caprica and Deadwood, will play a character named Maureen, who, according to Entertainment Weekly, is based in Belfast. Johnson (The Shield, Saving Grace), on the other hand, reprises his role as Kozik from the Tacoma chapter in six episodes of the new season.

Meanwhile, production for season 3 hasn’t started. However, fans can catch Johnny Lewis, whose character Prospect was stabbed in the stomach by Cameron Hayes in the season 2 finale of Sons of Anarchy, in The Runaways, a biopic about an all-girl teenage rock band that performed in the 1970s. At the same time, Kim Coates, who plays Tig, is working with Christian Slater and Cuba Gooding Jr. in the crime thriller called Sacrifice.

Charming makes room for more characters for the third season of Sons of Anarchy, which begins with new episodes in September. As reported previously, Caprica actress Paula Malcolmson has signed on for an eight-episode arc as the character Maureen while Kenneth Johnson will be reprising his role Kozik from the Tacoma chapter in six episodes of the new season.

We’ve also mentioned that Stephen King will make a cameo appearance as “a quiet loner who appears in Gemma’s [Katey Sagal] time of need,” and Into the Wild star Hal Holbrook will be joining the cast as Gemma’s father, Nate Madock.

The latest to join Sons of Anarchy, however, is James Cosmo, according to TV Fanatic. The veteran actor, whose credits include roles on Castle and FlashForward, will appear in a six-episode arc as Father Kellan Ashby, an Irish Catholic priest who will be forced to condone a character’s confession.

In other news, FX has set the release date for the season 2 DVD and Blu-ray on August 31. The set includes all episodes of the mind-blowing second season, as well as gag reels, deleted scenes, commentaries and a bunch of extra features.

Season Overview

According to the Chicago Tribune, the new season will tap on the link between Belfast and Charming since John Teller set up an outpost of Sons of Anarchy in Belfast decades earlier. Series creator Kurt Sutter explains that the show has “dual [Belfast-Charming] story lines from the jump” and the two plots will come together deeply a few episodes into Season 3. “I think we’ve earned it. I think people are invested enough in the characters and the world to where they’re open to getting backstory about [SAMCRO co-founder and Jax's father] John Teller and about this world.”

Chief Unser

According to TV Guide,Unser will step down from his post next season, consequently leavingHale as Deputy Chief. Series creator Kurt Sutter hints that Hale willbe put on a tight spot on Sons of Anarchy season 3 and is forced to make tough decisions just as Unser did in the past. “Unsercame to understand… that you have to create relationships with thesegangs and turn the other way sometimes and set parameters,” Sutterexplained. “You can’t go by the letter of the law or you’re f—-d.Hale [will] have to learn those lessons and how much he’s willing tobend.”

Jax

Losing baby Abel will definitely affect Jax and his relationship with Tara on Sons of Anarchy Season 3.Series creator Kurt Sutter says he wants to “explore what happens to acouple when they’re faced with a tragedy like that….To be honest withyou, I don’t know where it’s going to go. Does Tara blame herself? DoesTara blame Jax? Does Jax blame Tara? But that will be a very realdynamic in their relationship.”Sutter also reveals to Entertainment Weekly thatboth are “struggling with who they are as a couple.” The aftermath ofthe events of the season 2 finale have forced them to take a step backin their relationship. “It was a reality check and it will impacteverything they do throughout the season.”

Gemma

Afterkilling Polly and getting framed for the death of Edmond Hayes, Gemmaremains on the run but that doesn’t mean she’ll tame down nor will shelay low. “I’m in danger, I killed somebody. There’s an element ofdanger for everybody,” Katey Sagal tells TV Guide. “Gemma got totally screwed, but she’ll get revenge.”According to Facast, there will be a $10K bounty on Gemma’s head.

Sons of Anarchy Season 3 Casting Corner:

Entertainment Weekly reports that Stephen King will make a cameo appearance as “a quiet loner who appears in Gemma’s [Katey Sagal] time of need.” He will be making his debut on the third episode of the third season.Into the Wild star Hal Holbrook will be joining the cast in the third season as Gemma’s father, Nate Madock, who reportedly has Alzheimer’s. He’ll be making his debut in the premiere and will appear for four episodes.Taryn Manning, who played Cherry in Season 1, will be back for three episodes this year, according to Fancast.

FX Picks Up ‘Sons of Anarchy’ for Season 3

FX has officially renewed Sons of Anarchy for yet another season after riding high into the finale with 4.33 million viewers total and 2.99 million adults ages 18-to-49— the series’ best ratings so far. Season 3 will consist of 13 installments and is scheduled to return in September 2010.
This shouldn’t really come as a surprise to fans of the motorcycle drama. TV numbers aside, Sons of Anarchy has delivered a remarkable sophomore season, kicking off with the arrival of the League, followed by Gemma’s rape, the Jax and Clay feud, and the unexpected death of Half Sack, just to name a few. And not that it matters but Ally Walker, who brilliantly plays the unyielding Agent Stahl, also happens to be FX president John Landgraf’s wife.

“The success of Sons of Anarchy is very gratifying and the show has become a bona-fide hit,” said Landgraf. “The critics have recognized Sons as one the best series on television, and the show has earned its place alongside FX’s great drama series The Shield, Nip/Tuck, Rescue Me and Damages. Creatively, this season was spectacular and all credit goes to Kurt and the incredible cast led by Katey Sagal, Charlie Hunnam and Ron Perlman.”

“This has been a wonderful ride and we’re just getting started,” series creator Kurt Sutter said. “I’m really proud of the work by our incredible cast and crew. The response this season from the fans and critics has been terrific and I can’t wait to get back to the writer’s room and start on season three.”

Season 3 cannot come quick enough!

Pitching in a concept for a TV series is not the same thing as creating it–and that almost sums up Kurt Sutter’s sentiments when it comes to allegations that FX stole the idea of Sons of Anarchy from an ex-biker. In his personal blog, the series creator of the acclaimed motorcycle club series lashes the lawsuit claims by posting a meaty response under the headline “Douchebaggery Is The Greatest Form Of Flattery…Again.”

“HAVING THE F***ING IDEA IS NOT THE SHOW. THERE HAVE BEEN DOZENS OF OUTLAW MOTORCYCLE TV DRAMAS PITCHED IN THE LAST TEN YEARS. NONE OF THEM HAS MADE IT TO SERIES, EXCEPT SOA. BECAUSE THEY SUCKED.”

Sutter’s fury comes on the heels of a lawsuit filed by former Hells Angel Chuck Zito, who claims that he developed a show called Nomads and pitched a TV drama about a renegade motorcycle club to FX in 2004 with an ICM talent agent. FX allegedly passed on the show and in 2006, started developing Sons of Anarchy with Sutter. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Zito is seeking a whopping $5 million in damages.

Meanwhile, Sons of Anarchy fans are aware that having such detractors is just the kind of thing they’d expect from a series that has reached its pinnacle. Not surprisingly, they’ve also expressed their loyalty and support for Sutter.
